Logistics service provider successfully integrates spare parts logistics

As part of an extensive outsourcing project, in January 2015, THE GREEN LINE Nellen & Quack, at its location in Ochtrup (Logistic Solutions) took over storage and distribution of spare parts for the machine factory Kemper in January 2015.

The real hardness test followed only in autumn 2015: the start of corn harvest.

The corn harvesting headers for field choppers and combine harvesters produced by Kemper are naturally most stressed in the harvesting months, and therefore the number of spare part orders shoots up. In the high season months, the outgoing goods volume is five to six times higher than usual. Also the incoming goods volume increases to ensure a continuous spare part provisioning.

In this scenario, the warehouse management system w3/max of w3logistics AG could impressively prove that this kind of order peaks does not pose a problem for the system at all.

The modern multi user logistics centre successfully operated by Nellen & Quack since 2012 at the location in Ochtrup started right from the beginning with the WMS w3/max of w3logistics AG. The parallel implementation of the most different working processes of multiple clients – beginning from a simple pallet storage to the complete implementation of the logistics for a web shop – in a single system with the constant adding of new requirements are distinguishing features of a flexible warehouse management system.

Also during the integration of the spare parts logistics processes for Kemper, it was necessary to implement larger extensions to the system without interfering with the work of other clients.

More than 7,000 new articles with copious morphological data and detail pictures of all articles were automatically imported into the system. The order process was adapted to the special challenges of the spare parts business for major and end customers. For the packing process, the relevant additional end customer specific packing information was stored. The loading process was optimized for a better tracking.

All in all, the automatization of work flows, the connection to CEP service providers and the integration of tracking leads to faster, better and leaner processes and thus strengthens the competitiveness of this logistics location for THE GREEN LINE also for other projects.

By means of this outsourcing, Kemper was able to optimize internal processes and can now react faster to customer requirements, moreover, considerably large areas were freed for the production.

Michael Schweisfurth, executive officer at THE GREEN LINE in Ochtrup: "Once again, the co-operation with w3logistics worked out extremely well. The demanding adaptation and extension of w3/max went seamlessly and despite of these larger changes we were able to continue with our daily business without any interruption."
