Research for tomorrow's logistics

Let your logistic take off

LEAN cable robot demonstrator

"Let your logistic take off" – this is the slogan of the homepage of the research project LEAN. On this new website, the team will keep you up-to-date on the latest developments and possibilities offered by this novel technology. w3logistics AG works together with experts from the University of Duisburg-Essen and other companies, such as the logistics service provider HAVI, to develop a new lightweight racking system based on cable robot technology.

LEAN is one of ten entries that especially delighted the advisory committee of the leading market competition "MobilitätLogistik.NRW". These ten selected joint projects will together be funded with about 9.5 m. € EFRE subsidies and about 3.8 m. € co-financing.

The North Rhine-Westphalia based consortium will develop highly innovative components to be able to offer the most powerful stacker cranes in the future. The advantages of this technology are obvious. Compared to conventional stacker cranes, the project pursues a radically new approach: Of the conventional system, only the function of a storage and retrieval platform will remain. This will now be moved by a system of tensioned cables in front of the racks. These cables are coiled and decoiled under coordinated control of multiple winches und thus allow for a precise positioning of the storage and retrieval platform including the payload in front of the high bay racks.

The speed of this technology in line with intelligent software can revolutionize commissioning in the future. A video on the homepage of the LEAN research project shows the use of cable robot based technology for managing high racking systems in a test rig of the University of Duisburg-Essen. Due to an easy integration into the system landscape of companies, not only the economic but also the ecological efficiency will be increased significantly.

First LEAN prototype in action

In this research project, the software company from Dortmund primarily assumes the tasks of developing a mobile WMS app based on OpenUI5 and the recording and implementation of the requirements for the adaptation of the warehouse management system and its interfaces to be set up, as well as the connection to the existing material and information flows. The focus lies on the development of innovative know-how, so that the research results can be integrated into our own products and services and the latest trends can be developed from which you can also profit.
