Coldstore: Start-up in record time
Only six weeks from order entry to going live, just one single day for the start of operations: Once more w3logistics AG from Dortmund proved that it is indeed possible to run IT projects in the logistics industry quickly and smoothly.
In order to accomplish this, it was surely helpful that the warehouses at two other locations of the Dutch logistics service provider Coldstore B.V. in Oer-Erkenschwick and Hamm have already been using the warehouse management system w3/max for some years.
Although, when looking at the details, there was a definite need for customizing the software in Hengelo: Warehouse topology, material master data, and strategies for storage and picking had to be adapted to meet additional requirements.
The standard software w3/max was able to prove its flexibility once again: All adaptations were implemented by simply reconfiguring the existing solution, the software core stayed unchanged. In this way, future enhancements can be made available at all locations without any additional effort.
For Holger Schäfer, logistics manager at Coldstore, this is an important advantage: "By using the same software at all locations we now can share resources across all warehouses much easier. This flexibility will be a benefit to our customers as well as to our employees."
