Research for tomorrow's logistics

w3logistics presents research results in Los Angeles

Mobile devices in the warehouse

Within the scope of a co-operation with the Professorship for Transport Systems and Logistics of the University of Duisburg-Essen and other international research partners from Brazil and Ecuador, w3logistics analysed the requirements for warehouse management systems resulting from the upcoming age of Industry 4.0, to be able to stand its ground in the market and to keep pace with quickly changing processes and environmental conditions.

Industry 4.0 means the combination of highly individualized and hybrid products, an extremely flexible mass production on the base of a tight linkage between hardware, software and organization, as well as the integration of clients and business partners into the business processes. Numerous current and past research projects of w3logistics AG fall exactly into this category, as they deal with the introduction of new hardware components, new data sources and software solutions, as well as new dynamic process organizations.

The wide and diverse experiences of w3logistics AG resulting from the latest research activities were valuable during the assessment of future requirements for the effective and efficient management of warehouses. Specifically new insights and results of the projects LEAN (lightweight stacker crane based on cable robot technology) and TiLO (tracing of intelligent logistics objects) entered into this scientific publication. The latter project also formed the base for w3logistics AG's products w3/max S.N.A.P. and w3/max S.P.O.T., among others.

The results of the assessment, main authors of the publication being Udo Salewski (w3logistics AG) and Cyril Alias (University of Duisburg-Essen), will be presented on this years' Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference (MSEC2017) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in June in Los Angeles.
